Ministry, foundation publish storybook introducing children to emotion

The Women’s Empowerment and Children Protection Ministry and a philanthropist organization released a story book titled “Saat Noni Datang” (When Noni Comes) that introduces children to an array of emotions.

“The book was published as an educational medium for you to know the wide range of emotions or feelings and for parents to be able to assist children in managing the emotions they are going through,” Women’s Empowerment and Children Protection Minister Bintang Puspayoga remarked.

Puspayoga delivered the statement at an event titled “Singing and Reading Along with When Noni Comes” here on Wednesday.

The book can aid parents and educators in teaching children the ways to manage their feelings as well as to help them to better comprehend language and literacy.

‘When Noni Comes’ is the second book of the series from the collaboration between the ministry and Tanoto Foundation.

Minister Puspayoga expects all children in Indonesia to have access to the story book, so as to educate them and promote their development in all aspects.

The book was published to respond to the children’s rights to grow and develop, particularly their social and emotional skills, as was stipulated by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and Law on Child Protection, she elaborated.

“Knowing about emotions is one of the important components that a child must possess prior to mastering a more complex emotional intelligence,” she remarked.

One must be introduced to emotions from an early age, according to the minister. Puspayoga believes that greater the understanding one has about his or her own emotions, the better the control one has over them.

She believes that through literature, such as story books, parents could introduce children to those emotions.

“Illustrated books with attractive colors, coupled with a neat story, will make children more interested,” she concluded.

Some students, who participated in the event, represented some early education schools.
