Ministry of Commerce Establishes One Stop Service Center to Combat US Tariff Impact

Bangkok: The Ministry of Commerce has launched a One Stop Service Center to assist businesses after the United States imposed a 19% tariff on Thai imports. The initiative aims to support small exporters and explore new trade opportunities.

According to Thai News Agency, Minister of Commerce Mr. Chatuporn Buruspat addressed the media following the US's decision to implement a 19% reciprocal tariff on goods from Thailand, effective immediately. The measure is expected to affect exports, especially those of small businesses, due to increased costs. Nonetheless, Mr. Jatuporn highlighted that the new tariffs align with those of regional competitors, which may help Thai products remain competitive in the US market.

To help businesses navigate this new landscape, the Ministry of Commerce is setting up a One-Stop Service Consultation Center at the Ratchada Export Center. This center will collaborate with financial institutions and private sector support agencies to provide consultation and problem-solving solutions, streamlining the process for businesses seeking assistance.

Moreover, the Ministry plans to conduct a detailed analysis of the tariffs' impact on various products and to expedite negotiations for new markets and free trade agreements. Commercial diplomats have been tasked with focusing on these negotiations to establish clear objectives and swift execution.

The Minister emphasized that businesses must adapt to a range of global trade factors, including geopolitical volatility and environmental measures like the EU's CBAM, beyond the US tariffs alone. Despite these challenges, Mr. Chatuporn remains optimistic about Thailand's export potential in 2025, assuring continued support for entrepreneurs to maintain sustainable competitiveness in the global market.
