Bangkok: The Ministry of Transport (MOT) is collaborating with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) to tighten control over drone usage. The efforts include preparing legislation and mandating registration to enhance their role in the digital economy.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chaichanok Chidchob, the Minister of Digital Economy and Society, emphasized the growing concerns surrounding drones, particularly regarding security threats in border areas. He made these remarks while co-chairing the “The New Era of Drone Delivery” press conference organized by the National Telecom Public Company Limited (NT) and the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT).
The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society is committed to supporting the Ministry of Transport in studying drone usage guidelines. This support extends to applications in military equipment for prevention and response, as well as facilitating solutions to current issues such as traffic congestion in major cities and reducing carbon emissions from energy use and travel.
In addition, the MDES is keen to promote drone technology within the digital economy. This includes NT’s digital infrastructure services, which can enhance commercial drone use for transporting consumer goods and agricultural products in remote areas. The Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA) is also involved in supporting and developing farmers’ drone skills.
Minister Chaichanok reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to public safety and security in the use of drone technology across various fields. The ministry is prepared to promote skills development for the digital economy and support the Ministry of Transport in establishing a clear platform for drone registration and legislation, including strict penalties for violations.
