Missing fisherman’s body found in Jakarta bay: Jakarta SAR

The body of a 63-year-old fisherman, who was reported missing on Sunday, has been retrieved from Jakarta Bay, head of the Jakarta Search and Rescue Agency (SAR), Hendra Sudirman, has confirmed.

The fisherman, identified as Suhali,went missing near G island in Jakarta Bay on Sunday after sailing out from Kaliadem Port in a small boat.   According to the SAR team, his body was found by SAR officers in the waters off Mutiara Coast, Penjaringan, North Jakarta on Tuesday morning.

“Yes. The fisherman has been found,” Sudirman said in a message received here on Wednesday.

He asked ANTARA to contact the head of the operational section of Jakarta SAR Office, Kamal Riswandi, for more details on the search and rescue operations.

Meanwhile, Riswandi asked Antara to confirm the details with the Directorate of Water Police (Mutiara Coast), Jakarta Police.

“(Our job) was only to evacuate the body. For more details, please go to the Mutiara Coast water police post,” Riswandi said.

Earlier, the head of the Directorate of Water Police Headquarters of the Jakarta Police in Kaliadem, first inspector Paulus, had said that he had received a report from a security officer from the Mutiara Coast housing complex around 8 a.m. local time about the discovery of the fisherman’s body about 500 meters from his boat.

“It is true that there was a floating body. Thus, we immediately evacuated it in collaboration with the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) and the National SAR as well as the Sub-Directorate of Environment and Forestry Law Enforcement of Jakarta Water Police,” Paulus told reporters here on Tuesday.

The fisherman’s body was evacuated using a SAR rescue fleet and taken to the Mutiara Coast Naval Post, he said. Next, it was transported by an ambulance to the nearest hospital for visum et repertum (VeR), he added.

The body was identified based on forensic results and a statement from the fisherman’s family.

The body was transported to Karawang, West Java, to be buried in his hometown.
