Earlier, the BMKG stated that rains are likely to fall in the next 10 days from late February to early March in the NTB region. “During the ongoing rainy season in NTB, we hope that the community will continue to be aware of the potential for hydrometeorological disasters,” the BMKG forecaster for the Nusa Tenggara Climatology Station, Cakra Mahasurya, remarked. The BMKG noted that the potential for hydrometeorological disasters, such as heavy rains, strong winds, landslides, and floods, could occur suddenly with local impact. “People are also advised to be aware of the potential for extreme weather that could disrupt their daily activities,” Mahasurya stated. The agency also noted that the flow of air masses, especially in the NTB region, was still dominated by westerly winds. The westerly winds are forecast to last until March 2023, as the Asian Monsoon is still active and dominates Indonesia. The movement of the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) phase, which is a tropical disturbance that runs eastward throughout the tropics area, with a 3060 day cycle, is currently observed to be inactive in the Indonesian territory and is forecast to remain inactive until the end of February 2023.
