-The 15th National Assembly (NA) on October 24 approved a list of 44 persons subject to the vote of confidence at its ongoing sixth session in Hanoi.

NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said the organisation of the vote of confidence aims to promote the efficiency and effectiveness of the parliament’s supervisory activities and the State apparatus’s activities, help assess the prestige and performance of officials, and help them realise the confidence they are given to continue making self-improvement and bettering their performance. -President Vo Van Thuong pledged favourable conditions for Vietnam – Cuba defence cooperation while receiving Sen. Lt. Gen. Roberto Legra Sotolongo, Chief of the General Staff and Deputy Minister of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces, who is on a working visit to Vietnam, in Hanoi on October 24.

The host highlighted the significance of the trip, which follows the 60th founding anniversary of the Cuban Committee for Solidarity with South Vietnam (September 1963) – the predecessor of the Cuba – Vietnam Friendship Association, and 50 years since Cuban leader Fidel Castro first visited Vietnam and the liberated zone in South Vietnam in Quang Tri (September 1973).Read full text

-Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received United Nations Resident Coordinator in Vietnam Pauline Tamesis in Hanoi on October 24, on the occasion of the 78th founding anniversary of the UN.

-Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Chairman of John Swire & Sons Limited Guy Bradley in Hanoi on October 24, welcoming the UK-headquartered firm’s continuous expansion of investment and business activities in Vietnam.

He called on the over-200-year Swire Group to continue expanding its operations in such sectors as aviation, trade and industry, logistics, real estate, health care, and the production, distribution and retail network in Vietnam; develop human resources, especially high-quality ones; and consider cooperating with local universities and vocational schools.Read full text

-Lieutenant General Le Duc Thai, Commander of the Vietnam Border Guard force, held annual talks with Director General of the Lao Border Military Department Major General Siphan Phoutthavong in Luang Prabang on October 24.

Both sides agreed to continue on with the border guard cooperation agreement between the Vietnam Border Guard High Command and the Lao Border Military Department signed on October 16, 2018, as well as the legal border documents signed between Vietnam and Laos.Read full text

-Ho Chi Minh City wants to enhance cooperation with Japanese businesses by optimising potential and advantages, thus benefiting both sides, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Duong Anh Duc said on October 24.

At a reception for a visiting delegation of Japanese enterprises, Duc stressed that HCM City always wishes to be a trusted destination for Japanese businesses and it is interested in fostering relations with Japanese localities and partners through delegation exchanges, agreements, and projects.Read full text

-Leaders of Can Tho had a meeting with the consulates general and attachés of Australia, the US, and Japan on October 24, highlighting the Mekong Delta city’s willingness to expand multi-faceted cooperation with the foreign partners.

-The investment fund VinaCapital expects Vietnam’s GDP growth to rebound to 6.5% next year, driven by a recovery in exports, which will in turn be closely accompanied by a rebound in the local manufacturing sector output.

Michael Kokalari, Chief Economist at VinaCapital, wrote in his freshly released note that the optimism for a manufacturing-driven recovery of Vietnam’s GDP growth next year stems from an analysis of the cause of the sector’s problem in 2023.Read full text

-Vietnam’s top female badminton player, Nguyen Thuy Linh, earned a historic milestone on October 24 by entering the top 20 in the Badminton World Federation (BWF)’s world rankings for the first time.

According to the latest BWF rankings, Linh has a total of 45,550 points, rising four places from 24th to 20th globally, the highest ranking achieved by the 1997-born player from the northern province of Phu Tho so far.Read full text/.
