Yogyakarta (ANTARA) – A commuter railway passenger from Central Java safely gave birth to a baby girl shortly after arriving at Tugu Station in Yogyakarta on Sunday (February 26) evening, according to state railway company PT KAI.PT KAI Operational Area 6 Yogyakarta’s Public Relations Manager Franoto Wibowo stated that the passenger gave birth with assistance from on-duty health officers after being taken to the station’s medical room.
“The passenger has just disembarked from the Palur-Yogyakarta line commuter rail and sat at a bench in Tugu Station’s waiting hall before being evacuated to the medical post by our officers,” Wibowo noted, as per the statement here, Monday.
He said that an on-patrol station security officer noticed a woman passenger sitting on the station bench agonizing in pain and found that she was pregnant.
The security officer promptly evacuated the pregnant mother, who hailed from Sukoharjo District, Central Java, to the station’s medical room, and an on-duty health officer found the woman would be in labor soon, the manager stated.
“With assistance from the doctor, general practitioner, and midwife from PT KAI, the mother gave birth to a baby girl at 8:33 p.m. local time (UTC +7),” Wibowo noted.
fter completing the procedure, which went smoothly, the mother and her baby were referred to the nearby Bethesda Hospital for further treatment, he remarked.
Reflecting on the incident, Wibowo urged railway passengers to not hesitate to ask for assistance from railway officers at the station or on board the train if needed.
“PT KAI officers are ready to provide services and assistance for passengers round the clock. Do not hesitate to ask for assistance,” he stressed.
He also called on passengers using railway transport to always be aware of their health conditions before embarking and continue to prioritize personal safety.
