Lopburi province: A mother has filed a police report against her new husband, accusing him of assaulting her two-year-old son by punching him in the stomach, which resulted in the child’s death. She has vowed to pursue the case to its fullest extent, while her husband, the stepfather, claims he was merely joking around.
According to Thai News Agency, the funeral rites for the boy were held at Wat Kaew Chantharam in Khok Samrong District. The atmosphere was heavy with sadness as family, neighbors, and relatives gathered, suspecting the stepfather, Mr. Sekwuthi, also known as Mai, to be the perpetrator.
The mother expressed her grief and apologies on Facebook, lamenting her failure to protect her son. She posted a black and white photo of them together, expressing disbelief at the turn of events. She had been living with Mr. Mai for over five months and worked in a factory in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, leaving her son in the care of his grandmother.
On the day of the incident, she returned home to pick up her son, only to find him unconscious. Mr. Mai claimed he was just playing around with the boy and had punched him in the stomach. The child was taken to the hospital but died on the way. Doctors found multiple bruises on the boy’s abdomen, and an autopsy revealed severe injuries, including lacerated organs and a ruptured liver, lung, and spleen.
The Superintendent of Khok Samrong Police Station stated that the autopsy results were consistent with the evidence, implicating Mr. Mai as the perpetrator, despite his denials. Police have gathered sufficient evidence to proceed with the case.
