Myanmar Military Drone Crashes in Thai Forest During Attack on Opposition Group

Tha song yang: A Myanmar military drone crashed in a forest on the Thai side during an operation aimed at attacking an opposition group. The incident occurred after the drone lost control and ended up in the forested area in Thailand, causing no injuries or property damage.

According to Thai News Agency, the 35th Ranger Task Force, known as the Naresuan Force, was alerted by a source about the discovery of the drone in the forest. In response, they coordinated with police officers and the administration of Tha Song Yang District to inspect the area where the drone was found. Operational reports confirm that a radio-controlled unmanned aircraft, identified as a kamikaze drone, crash-landed on a mountain in Ban Khun Mae We, Tambon Tha Song Yang, Amphoe Tha Song Yang, Tak Province, approximately 15 kilometers from the Thai-Myanmar border.

Investigations suggest that the drone, believed to be operated by the Myanmar military, was used in an attack against a resistance group but malfunctioned and crashed on the Thai side. In response to the incident, the Rajamanu Task Force, part of the 35th Ranger Regiment Task Force, along with police officers and district administration, have cordoned off the area. They have marked the crash site as a dangerous zone and informed the public to avoid entry.

The Naresuan Army’s bomb disposal team has been dispatched to collect and destroy any remaining explosives. Meanwhile, the Thai authorities have issued a protest letter to the Myanmar side through the Thai-Myanmar Local Border Committee in Mae Sot District, Tak Province, regarding the drone’s crash on Thai soil.

The drone is suspected to be part of the Myanmar military’s arsenal, resembling those used in previous attacks on the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) unit’s positions. These attacks occurred on 18 March 2015, 12 June 2015, and 13 July 2015, targeting the KNLA’s 7th Infantry Division, Koloy Leh Company, and the 6th Infantry Division, New Valley Company, respectively.
