Bangkok: A mysterious audio clip has surfaced, allegedly revealing a vote-buying scheme involving several major Thai political parties. The clip features a phone call to a Democrat Party MP, during which a young woman persistently negotiates for support in the upcoming government budget vote, offering “10 kilograms of money” in return.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Sirikanya Tansakul, a party-list MP and deputy leader of the Prachachon Party, addressed the issue, revealing that votes were allegedly bought for the government’s legislative bill. Mr. Chatchawan Apirakmankong, a Khon Kaen MP for the Prachachon Party, admitted to vote-buying using cash in exchange for support on the 2026 Budget Act and the Integrated Entertainment Venue Act. The audio clip captures the woman trying to persuade a male MP to raise his hand in favor of the government, suggesting that if he didn’t like the policy, he should at least consider the proposal.
The woman in the clip ambiguously hinted at higher authorities, refusing to confirm her association with the Pheu Thai Party but stating that the source was above the government level. The male MP questioned her repeatedly about her connections, asking if she represented figures like Uncle Pom, the Colonel, or the Bhumjaithai Party, to which she replied, “No way.”
The clip also reveals the woman’s attempts to arrange a clandestine meeting, proposing a location without cameras to discuss the matter further. She emphasized the need for the male MP’s support by stating that the money was from the government and suggested that political parties received such funds to establish themselves.
The audio has raised concerns about the implications of political corruption and vote-buying in Thai politics, with the male MP expressing his reluctance to participate in the scheme. He voiced his concerns about the safety and validity of the offer, indicating a need for transparency and accountability within his party.
As the conversation concluded, the male MP’s skepticism remained, and the woman’s attempts to secure his participation were met with resistance. The emergence of this audio clip has sparked a debate on political ethics and the influence of money in legislative processes.
