Bangkok: The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) is swiftly investigating the transfer of a 35 billion baht budget intended for the distribution of digital money, amid concerns of a potential violation of Section 144 of the Constitution.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Saroj Phuengramphan, Secretary-General of the NACC, discussed the recent decision to accept a complaint regarding the budget transfer from a state bank to the central budget. This budget might be utilized in a project to distribute 10,000 baht via digital wallets. The investigation is currently in its initial phase, with officials actively gathering evidence related to the complaint.
Mr. Saroj explained that the investigation aligns with Section 144 of the 2017 Constitution, which mandates that the NACC conduct prompt investigations without the need for an investigation committee, unlike other cases. The NACC will assign officials to conduct the investigation, similar to the previous case concerning budget misallocation in the water resource management project aimed at addressing drought and late rain issues in 2025. This project, approved by Mr. Prasert Chantharawongthong and submitted to the Cabinet, involved a total budget of 51,584.00817 million baht. The complaint also indicated that the budget was allotted to politicians from the Pheu Thai Party, with each receiving 50 million baht, which is also under investigation.
