Bangkok: The national police chief has reaffirmed the commitment to enforce legal measures against monks who violate the law, emphasizing that such offenders represent a minority within the monastic community nationwide.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Gen. Kittirat Panphet, the national police chief, provided an update on the current developments involving monks under investigation. He highlighted that the Central Investigation Bureau has already furnished detailed information on the cases, and the Anti-Corruption Division (ACD) is tasked with following through on the legal procedures. The chief assured that the law applies equally to all individuals, regardless of their status as monks or laypersons.
Pol. Gen. Kittirat acknowledged the sensitive nature of dealing with monastic issues and refrained from offering further commentary. He emphasized that clear legal proceedings and monastic disciplinary actions are being conducted concurrently. The national police chief reiterated that offenders will face appropriate legal consequences.
He noted that the issue of monks engaging in unlawful activities is minor when compared to the total monk population, which exceeds 300,000 in the country. He stressed that all legal processes will be meticulously followed in addressing these cases.
