The National Police Headquarters has put three ships on standby around the waters of Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province, to secure the convening of the 2022 MotoGP pre-season test at Mandalika Circuit.
“The ships, which are under the command of Water and Air Corps of Indonesian National Police, have arrived at the venue to secure the event,” Head of Public Relations of the NTB Regional Police Senior Commissioner Artanto informed here on Friday.
Currently, the ships are on standby along with the national police’s AW-169 helicopter, which routinely conducts air patrols around the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit area, he said.
For securing the MotoGP pre-season test, the NTB regional police is closely coordinating with other security authorities, including the navy, air force, state-owned ferry operator PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry, Port Authority and Harbormaster Office (KSOP), National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), and state-run airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I, he added.
To strengthen the security preparations for the racing event, the national police has held several limited meetings with related stakeholders and carried out security simulations in water areas, he said.
Furthermore, the NTB regional police official is looking into any matter which is seen to have the potential to disrupt the implementation of the event, he added.
“Our monitoring and securing attempts have been supported by a quite large number of personnel and the additional supporting security facilities. It is part of our joint efforts to succeed the event,” Artanto remarked.
The 2022 MotoGP pre-season test at Mandalika Circuit is taking place from February 11–13, 2022. On the first day of the test, Repsol Honda’s Pol Espargaro emerged as the fastest rider, followed by Aprilia Team’s Aleix Espargaro and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Brad Binder.
The 2022 MotoGP Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia will be implemented on March 18–20, 2022.
