“Natthaphong” insists on moving forward with straightforward checks and balances on the government.

“Nattapong”, the opposition leader, confirmed that he will proceed with checking and balancing the government in a straightforward manner, making it worthwhile for taxes, and is ready to push for every law, regardless of which side it comes from. It is expected that the opposition will submit a debate in early 2025, and will investigate the ethics of MPs and separate party and individual work.

Mr. Nattapong Ruangpanyawut, MP for the party list and leader of the Prachachon Party, said after the ceremony to receive the royal command to appoint him as the leader of the opposition in the House of Representatives that he would like to thank the Speaker of the House of Representatives, members of the House of Representatives, members of the Senate, the Secretary-General of the House of Representatives, the Secretary-General of the Senate and the executives of the parliament, as well as the people. He thanked them for the opportunity to receive the royal command to be the leader of the opposition in the House of R
epresentatives. He thanked everyone for trusting him in performing the duty of the leader of the opposition in the parliament. After this, he will discuss with the opposition parties on how to perform their duties and will perform their duties to check and balance the executive branch, provide suggestions that are beneficial to the executive branch and the government, while taking into account the benefits of the people as the most important factor. He confirmed that he will perform his duties in the most straightforward manner, to make the most of the people’s tax money, and to be worthy of the people who elected him, regardless of whether he acts as the opposition party.

In this regard, we are ready to move forward with proposing laws that are beneficial to all citizens and are ready to support and jointly push for all laws, regardless of whether those laws are proposed by the government or any other party. As long as they are laws that are beneficial to the citizens, the Prachachon Party and the oppositio
n parties will discuss with the opposition whips to jointly support various laws. Even though we are opposition parties, we believe that we play an important role in democracy. After this, the working process in the parliament will be complete. Today, as we officially received the position of opposition leader, we would like to continue to perform our duties to the fullest.

As for the roadmap for the next steps, including the no-confidence motion against the government, Mr. Nattapong said that

the closest date is Wednesday, October 2nd. There will be the Trade Competition Act, which the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party has now proposed a draft to accompany. Both drafts are considered mutually beneficial, allowing the country’s large businesses to be taken care of and prevent monopolization of the market. He would like both the opposition and the government to push this law forward if they see mutual benefits. In addition, there are several other laws that will be on the agenda, such as the Defense Ministry Admini
strative Act.

Mr. Nattapong said that at the same time, preparations have been made and discussions have been held on the no-confidence debate and the general debate, which are in the process of the opposition parties, and it is expected that this will happen in early 2025.

In addition, the opposition leader also has a platform for the opposition leader to meet the people, traveling to various provinces as complaints are received.

As for the problem of the cobras in the opposition parties, Mr. Nattapong admitted that in the past, it was a discussion mechanism of the opposition whip. The debate and voting guidelines can be discussed in the same direction if we talk about it. However, not everything must always go in the same direction. However, he insisted that the People’s Party has no split voices.

For strengthening relations with the Palang Pracharath Party, as an opposition party, we will use the whip mechanism to move forward and work to the fullest, separating party work from personal work. The fact
that General Prawit Wongsuwan, the leader of the Palang Pracharath Party, was accused of ethics and it did not affect his performance of duties.

‘If this issue arises in the House of Representatives, if the Ethics Committee does not proceed directly and fully, I think it will destroy the public’s faith, that the House of Representatives is self-regulating, being friends with each other, and not proceeding to supervise in the matter of ethical standards. I think the Political Development Committee has discussed this matter and forwarded it to the Ethics Committee of the House. I think that this matter will be dealt with directly,’ said Mr. Nattapong.
