‘NCCC-NBTC’ Call for Closure of Websites Revealing Shelter Locations Amid Border Tensions

Bangkok: The NSC-TGO has urged the private sector and political parties to create a website aimed at identifying shelters or vulnerable points for civilians along the border, a move deemed perilous amid ongoing tensions as Cambodia continues to commit war crimes targeting civilians. They have advocated for closing these platforms temporarily, noting that government agencies already employ the W5 model for security.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jirayu Huangsap, a member of the Special Operations Center for the Administration of the Situation on the Thai-Cambodian Border (SOC), disclosed that the National Security Council (NSC) has raised concerns over volunteers and private sectors, including political parties, who have developed special applications or Facebook fan pages marking the coordinates of hospitals, shelters, and communities. While these efforts are well-intentioned, the ongoing clashes along the border have seen the Cambodian army persist in targeting civilians, prompting a call for cooperation to cease creating or maintaining websites that disclose such locations. The Ministry of Interior and other government agencies have already implemented the W.5 model, coordinating through provinces, districts, and sub-districts to prevent sensitive information from reaching the opposing side.

In related developments, officials reported discovering a long-barreled bullet at Ban Ta So, Village No. 10, Ban Phluang Subdistrict, Prasat District, Surin Province, at 6:10 a.m. this morning.

Mr. Jirayu further appealed to political entities, particularly the People’s Party, to temporarily suspend such websites. He emphasized understanding the public’s concerns, noting the government’s ongoing defensive measures throughout the three days of border clashes. The security sector refrains from disclosing evacuation center locations or other sensitive points to prevent the Cambodian army from exploiting this information to harm civilians. Cooperation is sought to close or cancel websites, fan pages, and other channels during this period of uncertainty.
