New Thai Navy Commander-in-Chief Pledges to Continue Submarine and Frigate Policy

Bangkok: The new Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy has announced the continuation of the navy’s existing submarine and frigate policy while also promoting the integration of new technologies to enhance the safety of personnel. Public assurances have been made regarding Thailand’s commitment to maintaining its borders and preventing any intrusions, with a firm stance ready to be taken if cooperation from neighboring countries is not forthcoming.

According to Thai News Agency, Admiral Pairoj Fuangchan, the newly appointed Commander-in-Chief, emphasized the importance of policy continuity for the sustainability of the navy. He noted that the policies laid out by his predecessor, Admiral Jirapol Wongwit, would be carried forward as they align with the navy’s strategic goals. These include the incorporation of advanced technologies such as unmanned aerial vehicles.

Admiral Pairoj also highlighted the role of the Navy Wives Association in supporting junior officers by meeting their living expenses and basic needs. The NAVY SAFETY 2025 initiative, aimed at ensuring personnel safety, will continue to be a priority.

Regarding national sovereignty, Admiral Pairoj reiterated the navy’s commitment to protecting Thailand’s maritime boundaries, especially in areas such as Koh Kood. He assured that forces are ready for deployment in the Chanthaburi and Trat regions, with enhanced equipment including drones and night-vision systems.

Admiral Pairoj also addressed concerns about border security, especially regarding the occupation of former military bases and potential territorial encroachments. He confirmed ongoing negotiations with Cambodia to resolve issues in accordance with existing agreements, emphasizing the navy’s readiness to act if the situation escalates.
