Jakarta (ANTARA) – Three foreigners in Manado, North Sulawesi, who were earlier suspected of contracting Omicron, have not been infected with the variant, based on the latest examination, the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment has confirmed.

“Therefore, it has been confirmed that the news (of three foreigners) in Manado is not Omicron case,” Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said at a virtual press conference here on Monday.

All patients who have been confirmed with Omicron are currently undergoing quarantine at the Wisma Atlet COVID-19 Emergency Hospital in Jakarta, he added.

“The Omicron variant has only been found in Wisma Atlet. We are shielding Wisma Altet. There is only one place where the Omicron variant has been found, namely Wisma Atlet,” he stressed.

Earlier, the Ministry of Health had announced five suspected Omicron cases in the country.

Of the five cases, three were foreigners from China who were visiting Manado, North Sulawesi, while the remaining two were Indonesians undergoing quarantine at the Wisma Atlet COVD-19 Emergency Hospital.

On Thursday, the ministry had confirmed the first Omicron case in Indonesia, with a janitor at the Wisma Atlet Emergency Hospital, Jakarta, diagnosed with the virus.

The ministry detected two more patients later, bringing the total Omicron case count as of Friday to three.

Of the two additional patients, one had recently returned from South America and the other from England. The two patients were diagnosed based on the results of an examination.
