Indonesia’s non-tax revenue (PNBP) from the fisheries sector has reached nearly Rp1 trillion as of December this year, a sharp increase from Rp643.6 billion last year, Marine Affairs and Fisheries Minister, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, said.

“(As of last night) the revenue was recorded at Rp920 billion. We still have a few days (to reach Rp1 trillion),” Trenggono informed here on Wednesday.

He said he believes that with the ministry’s “accelerate” focus, the revenue could be increased further in 2022.

“In 2022, with our tagline ‘accelerate’, Insya Allah (God willing), we will be able to go even faster,” he said.

Trenggono had previously predicted that state revenue from fisheries could reach Rp12 trillion per year, with the potential of national marine and fisheries production pegged at Rp224 trillion.

The Directorate General of Capture Fisheries recorded non-tax revenue of Rp643.6 billion in 2020, Rp559.7 billion in 2019, and Rp519.33 billion in 2018.

Earlier, the Indonesian Traditional Fishermen Association (KNTI) had said that regulations related to non-tax state revenues from fisheries need to consider various issues so that their implementation is in accordance with the actual conditions.

“Non-tax revenue from marine and fisheries needs to be increased, in line with the increased utilization of resources,” KNTI head Dani Setiawan said.
