Bangkok: Nuchnat Charuwongsathian, MP for Sisaket District 9, has publicly explained her decision to leave the Pheu Thai Party, citing a commitment to returning power to the people and expressing her willingness to support any prime ministerial candidate who can secure a majority, except those from Pheu Thai.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Nuchnat took to Facebook to share her reasons for parting ways with the party, highlighting her history of voicing opinions that diverged from party leadership. She emphasized her role as a first-term MP intent on making changes, stating that her candid remarks on various issues, including the economy and agricultural product prices, led to friction with party leaders. This tension, she noted, contributed to her decision to leave the party.
Ms. Nuchnat detailed how party leaders allegedly sought to sideline her by speaking with other MPs in her vicinity, labeling them as extremists and suggesting they find a replacement for her candidacy in the next election. She expressed frustration over the lack of response to proposals from the majority of MPs within the party, as well as the silence surrounding the implementation of promised policies, such as the 10,000 baht digital wallet initiative.
She further elaborated on her discontent with the shifting ideology of Pheu Thai, stating that the party's original spirit had changed. Despite this, Ms. Nuchnat expressed her continued support for a democratic approach that prioritizes the people's voice, and reaffirmed her commitment to fighting for her constituents, even at the risk of losing her parliamentary position.
Ms. Nuchnat concluded by stating her intent to use her MP privileges to support any prime ministerial candidate capable of securing a majority, with the exception of those from Pheu Thai. This, she believes, will facilitate the dissolution of Parliament and return power to the people, addressing the current political challenges.
