Nusantara script standardization document approved by commission

The design of the Indonesian National Standard (RSNI) for the standardization of the Nusantara local script, submitted by the Indonesian Internet Domain Name Registry (PANDI) and literacy activists, has been approved by the technical commission 35-02.

The RSNI was submitted for the preservation of Nusantara characters as a cultural heritage through digitalization.

The approval was announced in the consensus meeting of the technical commission 35-02, which was attended by commission members, the PANDI concept team comprising literacy activists, representatives of the National Standardization Agency (BSN), the Ministry of Human Development and Culture, and the Indonesian Information Technology Industry Association (AITII).

Vice chairman of business development, marketing, and cooperation of PANDI, Heru Nugroho, lauded all parties for the achievement.

According to him, with the submission approval, the SNI’s validation of several Nusantara local characters is drawing closer.

“After the SNI’s validation in December, a celebration of Nusantara script digitalization will be organized by the Ministry of Communication and Informatics in collaboration with PANDI,” Nugroho said in a press statement released here on Wednesday.

At the celebration event, the Communication and Informatics Minister will also inaugurate the implementation of Nusantara script digitalization, as a follow-up effort of SNI Aksara Nusantara, he informed.

Furthermore, the technical commission 35-02 has approved the RSNI document through acclamation by 12 of the 13 members who attended the meeting, he said.

The document will now proceed to the polling or opinion hearing stage and its approval process will conclude with the determination of SNI Aksara Nusantara, he added.

According to Dadan Sutisna, a consensus participant who is also a PANDI consultant, there were several minor corrections in the meeting, but they could be resolved in a short time.

Then, the technical commission agreed that a consensus had been reached on the RSNI document of the Nusantara script, so it could continue to the opinion stage, Sutisna said.

“After the consensus meeting, the next stage is the twenty-day polling. According to the plan, it will start on November 8, 2021. After that, there will be an SNI determination for Aksara Nusantara, which will be passed in December (2021),” he expounded.
