OBEC Ensures Transparent Selection Process for Deputy Director Amidst Fake Qualification Concerns

Bangkok: The Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) has reaffirmed the transparency and verifiability of its selection process for the Deputy Director position. Concerns arose following reports of fake qualifications being used in assistant teacher examinations.

According to Thai News Agency, Acting Sub-Lieutenant Thanu Wongchinda, Secretary-General of OBEC, addressed the social media reports claiming a candidate for the Deputy Director of an Educational Service Area Office submitted a forged academic qualification. OBEC’s investigation found no evidence supporting these claims. The selection process for the Deputy Director roles was confirmed to be transparent and fair.

Instances of forged qualifications were identified in the assistant teacher application process. Upon discovery, the examination committee disqualified the applicant before advancing to the written exams, preventing entry into civil service. OBEC has since directed education offices and examination centers to thoroughly verify applicant qualifications, emphasizing coordination with higher education institutions and the Teachers’ Council of Thailand.

Second Lieutenant Thanu highlighted the importance of integrity in government service applications, particularly for teaching positions, underscoring the role of teachers as societal role models. He stressed that applicants must adhere to the Teachers’ Council of Thailand’s criteria, warning against the use of false documents, which could lead to legal consequences and disqualification from future exams.

The OBEC Secretary-General urged all examination agencies to meticulously review applicants’ qualifications, ensuring the continued production of quality educators with strong morals who can serve as exemplary figures for youth.
