Ang thong: Making matters worse, thieves stole oil from a water pump, causing the pump to fail and flooding Wat Ton Son. CCTV footage captures a thief who stole oil from a water pump, causing the pump to stop working and flooding Wat Ton Son in Talat Luang Subdistrict, Mueang District, Ang Thong Province, causing distress to both monks and novices. CCTV footage captured a bronze four-door pickup truck driving into the temple grounds in the middle of the night before the thief stole a 30-liter oil tank and a tent guarding the pump and fled.
According to Thai News Agency, Phra Khru Palad Udon Paripunno, the assistant abbot, revealed that the temple was already flooded, so he installed a water pump to pump out the water. However, the pump stopped working, causing the temple to flood. When he went to look for the 30-liter oil tank to refill the pump, he couldn’t find it. After reviewing the CCTV footage, he discovered it had been stolen, so he filed a police report. Muang Ang Thong Police Station arrested him red-handed. The thief, identified as 24-year-old Sudket, was taken in for questioning, who confessed to the crime and was taken to reenact the crime.
Initially, investigators charged theft at night and drug use before expanding the investigation to prosecute further.
