Ayutthaya Residents Struggle as Prolonged Flooding Persists

Ayutthaya: Ayutthaya residents are experiencing severe distress due to persistent flooding that has lasted for three months. The community is anxious about the rapid waters, which pose a threat to safety and livelihoods, as villagers fear the capsizing of boats that could result in a significant loss of income.

According to Thai News Agency, the flooding in Village No. 4, Phu Khao Thong Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District, has forced residents to rely on boats to maneuver through the dangerously swift waters to access their homes. The situation has led to tragic incidents, with two people having drowned. Moreover, the community is facing a dire shortage of drinking water, and the inundation has rendered bathrooms unusable, compelling residents to travel via motorcycles to gas stations for basic sanitation needs.

Many families are suffering financially as the flooding has entered their homes, leading some to seek work on the roadside. Although government agencies have provided relief packages, the residents’ most pressing requirement remains access to clean drinking water, which is becoming increasingly scarce.
