One Million Houses Program’s implementation to increase post-Eid: govt

The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) remains optimistic that implementation of the One Million Houses Program would increase after Eid Al-Fitr 1443 Hijriah.

“We remain optimistic that the (implementation of the) One Million Houses Program would improve and increase after Eid this year,” Director General of Housing at the PUPR Ministry Iwan Suprijanto noted in a written statement on Monday.

With the increasing demand for livable housing and government policies to encourage the economy in various industrial sectors, the people’s purchasing power for property in Indonesia is expected to increase, according to Suprijanto.

The ministry is upbeat about the optimal implementation of the One Million Houses Program since housing is still a basic necessity that the community must fulfill, he affirmed.

Hence, the Director-General of Housing stated that the PUPR Ministry had continued to meet the housing needs of the community by synergizing with stakeholders in the housing sector through the One Million Houses Program.

Furthermore, during this year’s Eid homecoming period, the community is expected to understand the importance of decent houses. Homecomers, who return to their hometowns, are expected to be able to celebrate Eid with their families in decent homes for their own comfort.

“House has an important meaning, especially during this Eid al-Fitr, as everyone stays in touch at home with their family. A decent house is needed by every Indonesian family because everything starts from home,” Suprijanto remarked.

Earlier, the Directorate General of Housing noted that the achievement of the One Million Houses Program as of March 31, 2022, had reached 159,372 units, or 15.9 percent.

As many as 117,532 houses for low-income people (MBR) were built and 41,840 houses for non-MBR.

The Ministry of PUPR constructed 2,169 houses for low-income families; other ministries, 24 units; Regional Government, 297 units; developers, 58,184 units; CSR Housing, 10 units; and the community, 56,848 units.

The construction of houses for non-MBR carried out by developers reached as many as 23,482 units and 18,358 units from the community.
