Bangkok: Or Tor Kor Market remains closed for another day as relatives of the deceased security guard and his friends invite monks to perform a ceremony to invite his spirit. The market was deserted, with all shops closed, although some vendors were allowed entry to inspect goods and merchandise. Vendors were seen moving vegetables and fresh produce to alternate locations for sale, fearing spoilage. Meanwhile, fellow security guards paid homage to the spirits of the four security guards who were killed by gunmen the previous day, lighting incense sticks as part of the memorial.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Witsawet, the son of the deceased Mr. Wicha, stated that he came to perform a ceremony to invite his father’s spirit. Following the ceremony, Mr. Witsawet planned to visit the Bang Sue Police Station and the Chatuchak District Office to submit documents necessary for claiming his father’s body from the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the Police General Hospital. The family intends to transport the body to Roi Et Province for funeral rites.
The market authorities have requested cooperation from unrelated individuals to refrain from entering the area and recording images. Officials from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s Health Department have recently met with vendors to discuss emotional support in light of the tragedy. Additionally, the market is coordinating with relevant agencies to discuss safety measures before its scheduled reopening tomorrow.
