Bangkok: Paethongtarn Shinawatra, the Minister of Culture, presided over a significant religious ceremony involving five major religions to honor His Majesty the King on the occasion of his birthday on July 28. The event took place on July 15, 2025, at the Thailand Cultural Center, organized by the Ministry of Culture through the Department of Religious Affairs. It aimed to offer royal merit and best wishes, expressing loyalty and gratitude for His Majesty’s benevolence towards all Thai citizens.
According to Thai News Agency, the ceremony highlighted the unity and faith among Thai people of various religions under the royal patronage of His Majesty the King. The Department of Religious Affairs collaborated with 15 religious organizations from Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, Brahmanism-Hinduism, and Sikhism. More than 1,000 participants, including religious practitioners, leaders, and officials, attended the event. The ceremony reflects His Majesty’s continuous support for all religions throughout his reign.
Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra emphasized that this interfaith ceremony honors His Majesty the King, who serves as the heart of the nation. The event is part of the King’s commitment to continuing the royal initiatives of King Rama IX. These initiatives include promoting religious activities equally, nurturing Thai arts and culture, and preserving the nation’s traditions.
The ceremony featured various religious activities, including a royal blessing, Buddhist prayers, Islamic Dua, Christian prayers, Brahmanism-Hinduism prayers, and Sikh chants of Ardas and Kirtan. Additionally, exhibitions showcased His Majesty’s religious activities and important religious objects. Demonstrations from 10 religious communities highlighted cultural diversity and the unique identities of each religion. The Ministry of Culture has also instructed Provincial Cultural Offices to cooperate with local agencies to organize similar ceremonies across the country.
The Minister of Culture stated that the ceremony was not only a tribute to His Majesty but also a testament to the power of faith and unity in a multicultural society. It serves as an inspiration for people to express loyalty and gratitude by following religious principles and fostering Thai society’s faith, understanding, and sustainable unity.
Participants also engaged in hands-on activities such as making garlands, folding pandan leaves, and writing Arabic letters, reflecting the rich cultural tapestry of Thailand. These activities aimed to enhance understanding and appreciation of the nation’s diverse cultural and religious landscape.
