Pakornwut to Propose Discussion on Trump Tariffs to House of Representatives

Bangkok: Pakornwut Udompipatsakul, a party-list MP for the Prachachon Party and chief whip of the opposition parties, is preparing to submit a proposal to the House of Representatives to discuss the Trump tariffs. Pakornwut highlighted the connection between this issue and border negotiations, emphasizing the public’s support for all parties involved.

According to Thai News Agency, Pakornwut gave an interview regarding the progress of the urgent oral motion on US tax measures. He mentioned that this week’s parliamentary session will address the urgent oral motion on US tax measures, with motions from both the opposition and the government being presented. He acknowledged that these issues impact tax negotiations and noted the US’s role in mediating the Thai-Cambodian border conflict, stating that tax negotiations would not proceed without peace or a ceasefire.

Pakornwut stressed the importance of discussing these interconnected issues to resolve both situations simultaneously. The People’s Party has been closely monitoring the Thai-Cambodian border issues due to concerns for the population. Despite efforts, the situation remains unstable, and negotiations between Thai and Cambodian soldiers, initially set for 7:00 a.m., have been postponed to 10:00 a.m.

The People’s Party supports all stakeholders, including the military and local residents, and urges the military to prioritize the country’s best interests, particularly the safety of those living near the border. Pakornwut also noted that next week’s parliamentary session will consider the Railway Act. If time permits, the Central Administrative Organization Act and the Ethnicity Act, previously returned by the Senate, will also be reviewed.
