Bangkok: The Palang Pracharath Party is confident that the House will pass the 2026 budget, emphasizing that all MPs must attend the meeting in unison. The party stressed that its MPs attended the meeting together, dismissing concerns over opposition protests related to budget adjustments addressing Trump’s tax bill. The party believes the government is ready to tackle any potential crisis.
According to Thai News Agency, on August 11, 2025, Mr. Akkaradej Wongpitakroj, a Member of the House of Representatives for Ratchaburi Province, acting as the spokesman for the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party, discussed the review of the 2026 Budget Act in the upcoming second and third readings scheduled for August 13-15, 2025. Mr. Pirapan Salirathavipak, leader of the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party, urged MPs from his party to engage actively in the budget review process, highlighting its importance for government spending and addressing economic issues amid the country’s economic challenges.
During the budget discussions, Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party MPs suggested reductions in allocations for various ministries. These proposals align with the views of the Committee reviewing the 2026 Budget Act, which advocated cuts in non-essential areas to enhance government budget efficiency. The proposed reductions target ministries such as the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Transport, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
Despite opposition concerns about the budget amendments failing to address issues arising from US retaliatory tariffs, the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party shares the government’s stance that the anticipated adverse impact on the Thai economy is unlikely. The US import tariffs on Thailand, comparable to those in ASEAN, do not significantly affect competitiveness. The government is equipped with a comprehensive database to evaluate the situation effectively.
The budget has been reallocated to sectors in greater need. In the event of a real economic impact, the government has contingency measures, such as the central budget, and may consider proposing a mid-year budget if necessary.
The government has thoughtfully amended the 8.92 billion baht budget to address pressing national and public issues. “The Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party is confident that the 2026 Budget Bill will pass smoothly, serving as a crucial tool for the government to continuously address the problems facing the people,” Mr. Akaradej concluded.
