Palm Oil Prices Capped at 50 Baht per Bottle Following Price Drop

Bangkok: The Department of Internal Trade has set a cap on the price of bottled palm oil at a maximum of 50 baht per bottle, following a decrease in palm oil prices. This decision comes after thorough inspections and discussions with manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers. The department emphasized strict monitoring to prevent any price manipulation, warning that violations could lead to imprisonment and fines.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Witthayakorn Maneenet, Director-General of the Department of Internal Trade, disclosed that on June 4, 2025, he commissioned Mr. Udom Srisomsong and Mr. Kornnit Nonjui, Deputy Directors-General, to inspect palm oil prices across various retail and wholesale venues, including Go Wholesale, Srinakarin branch, Lotus’s Srinakarin branch, and CJ More, Salaya 2 branch. The inspection revealed that the price of bottled palm oil ranged from 46 to 49 baht per bottle, varying by brand. This pricing aligns with the current drop in fresh palm fruit prices.

The department engaged in discussions with seven bottled palm oil producers and eleven wholesale and retail operators to analyze the production cost structure and strategies for maintaining fair pricing. As older, high-cost stock depletes, the reduced cost of fresh palm fruit at 5-5.20 baht per kilogram allows producers to lower their prices. It has been confirmed that starting this week, bottled palm oil will be sold for under 50 baht, providing significant relief to consumers amid the current economic conditions. To ensure ongoing compliance, the department has directed provincial commercial offices nationwide to conduct urgent inspections at all retail levels. The public is encouraged to report any discrepancies or market manipulation via hotline 1569, Line @MR.DIT, or at provincial commercial offices. Violators will face penalties under the Price of Goods and Services Act B.E. 2542, which could include up to seven years of imprisonment or a fine of up to 140,000 baht, or both.
