Papua armed criminal group torches senior high school teachers’ houses

Jayapura An armed criminal separatist group (KKB) has reportedly torched the housing complex of senior high school teachers in Wako Village, Ilaga Sub-district, Puncak District, Papua Province.

Chief of the Public Relations Section at the Papua Provincial Police Senior Commissioner Ahmad Musthofa Kamal confirmed, on Saturday, the arson that occurred at around 7 p.m. local time on Friday.

Soon after receiving a report of the arson, the provincial police sent a team of personnel, led by Second Inspector Kristofol R. Lewirissa and Damai Cartenz, to the scene, he stated.

The police managed to put out the blaze at 7:20 p.m. local time with the help of local residents.

The team of police personnel also patrolled around the scene to ensure no movement of armed criminal group members.

No injuries or fatalities were reported.

He said the armed criminal group on Wednesday (May 11) shot a truck driver identified as Nober Palintin, 31, while taking sand from Ilame River, Wako Village, Gone Sub-district.

Palintin was believed to have been swept away by water currents after he was shot while attempting to escape to the river. He was found by local people at Wilipur River, Kimak Village, Ilaga Sub-district, on Thursday, he remarked.
