The Indonesian Wushu Association (PBWI) has selected 23 athletes to represent the country in the VIII/2022 World Junior Wushu Championships (WJWC) to be held in Tangerang District, Banten Province, on December 5-11, 2022.
First Deputy Chairperson for Sports Achievement of PBWI Iwan Kwok said in a statement on Sunday that the members of the Indonesian Junior Wushu National Team had been chosen from 49 participants of the national selection program.
Those 23 athletes picked by the PBWI’s national selection team were considered to have high opportunity to bag medals.
The junior national team consists of six male athletes and six female athletes of taolu or individual routine event.
The male athletes are Josh Tiesto Tanto and Richard Dean Kurnia from Jakarta; Rainer Reinaldy Ferdiansyah and Bradley Jason from East Java Province; Zamurai Alkensoe Damara from Central Java Province; as well as Carlson Ong from Jambi Province.
Meanwhile, the female athletes included Kylie Suyoyo Kwok, Ivana Beatrice Liestio, Rainie Elena Liem, and Billie Karina from Jakarta, Thailia Marvelina Tanzil from East Java Province; as well as Anasera Zahraa Haryoso from Bali Province.
The PBWI first deputy chairperson informed that the 12 taolu event athletes have been trained by Chinese coach Zhang Yong Sheng, being assisted by coach David Hendrawan from Jakarta and coach Probo Muljono from East Java Province.
In addition, the association will also deploy eight male athletes and three female athletes for sanda or fighting event.
Most of the sanda athletes come from Central Java Province, namely Kiemas Sakti Negara, Shaddam Achmad Assegaf, Dewangga Lindu Saputra, Denis Darmawan, Pandu Dian Saputra, Ragesta Ganang Pangestu, Aurella Calysta Purnomo, Nasya Aulia Zahra Wahana, and Nabila Puspa Annastasya.
Meanwhile, the rest of them are Rizki from West Java Province and Yanto Rizel Silaban from North Sumatra Province.
They have practiced with Chinese coach Xia Hong whois assisted by coach Hermansyah Mongisidi and coach Mohammad Selamat from Central Java Province; as well as coach Hotma Dearma Purba from North Sumatra Province.
The junior wushu national team is expected to snatch four gold medals at the event.
“Those who have been chosen to take part in the VIII World Junior Wushu Championships are the best junior athletes selected by PBWI through several stages, starting from the national circuit, the national championships, to the national selection,” Kwok added.
