PEA Issues Safety Guidelines for Returning Home Post-Flood

Bangkok: The Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) has issued crucial safety guidelines for residents preparing to return to their homes after water levels have receded. The PEA emphasizes the importance of ensuring that homes and electrical systems are safe before resuming regular use of electricity.

According to Thai News Agency, the PEA is deeply concerned about the safety of people in flood-affected areas and stresses the need for cautious preparation. Residents are advised to wear gloves and rubber shoes as a precaution against electric shock when checking electrical appliances and wiring at home.

Before using electricity, residents should disconnect the cutout or protection device inside their homes to inspect the electrical system and equipment. Any switches or plugs that were submerged should be thoroughly cleaned and allowed to dry completely. The PEA strongly advises against the immediate use of electrical appliances that were flooded, recommending that a qualified electrician inspect them first.

If the cutout shows signs of moisture, wetness, or a blown fuse, it should be left untouched for a day to allow evaporation of moisture. Any visible damage should be addressed by a professional electrician.

The PEA stresses that flooded electrical equipment poses significant safety risks. Residents are urged not to stand in water while installing or inspecting electrical systems to ensure the safety of lives and property.
