People’s Party and Prachachon Party Set to Compete in Chiang Rai By-Election

Bangkok: The People’s Party has officially announced its decision to field candidates in the upcoming Chiang Rai by-election. Teng, a representative of the People’s Party, confirmed his participation but requested that his name remain confidential for the time being. He also mentioned that there has been no communication with the Bhumjaithai Party regarding candidate competition, emphasizing that all parties have the right to contest the election.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut, a party-list MP and leader of the Prachachon Party, also declared their intention to participate in the Chiang Rai Constituency 7 by-election. This follows the vacancy left by Mr. Pichet Chuamuangphan. Mr. Sarayut Jailak, the party’s secretary-general, will join the candidates for registration on August 16th. The party has finalized its candidate list and is conducting thorough background checks to ensure the integrity of participants. Mr. Natthaphong expressed confidence in the elections, especially in constituencies where the Prachachon Party holds three MPs, and pledged to maintain an active campaign presence.

Addressing queries about potential discussions with the Bhumjaithai Party to avoid mutual competition, Mr. Natthaphong clarified that no such conversations have taken place. He reiterated that each party has the autonomy to field candidates and believes that no party would refrain from competing if confident in their constituency’s support.
