People’s Party Awaits Decision on Prime Ministerial Candidates Amidst Political Uncertainty

Bangkok: The People’s Party has yet to finalize its decision on selecting three prime ministerial candidates, as discussions and considerations remain ongoing.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Panusaya Wacharasindhu, a party-list MP and spokesman for the People’s Party, clarified that the opinions expressed by Mr. Krunpol Tiansuwan, another party-list MP and deputy spokesman, were personal and not a reflection of the party’s stance. Mr. Krunpol had shared his thoughts on potential candidates, but the party has not reached a consensus.

Mr. Panusaya emphasized that Mr. Natthaphong Ruangpanyawut, a party-list MP and leader of the People’s Party, has indicated the possibility of fielding multiple prime ministerial candidates in the upcoming election. Despite this, Mr. Natthaphong intends to inform the public of his primary choice, with the party leader as the first party-list MP. The party is currently in the process of gathering opinions and selecting the most suitable candidates.

Addressing the situation involving 44 MPs who may face a Constitutional Court ruling, Mr. Panusaya highlighted the importance of not forgetting the origins of the issue. It began with Move Forward Party MPs proposing a bill but facing legal challenges that could lead to disqualification. He stressed that such legal matters should not result in the disqualification of MPs and that differing opinions on laws, such as Article 112 of the L¨se-majest© law, should be anticipated.

Mr. Panusaya noted that the People’s Party’s main focus is to affirm the innocence of the 44 MPs and prevent their disqualification. He acknowledged the need for contingency plans but reiterated that no definitive decisions have been made. The party remains committed to exploring various options, despite Mr. Krunpol’s comments being his own.

When questioned about the concerns of the 25 Prachachon Party MPs, who are part of the Move Forward Party’s 44 MPs, Mr. Panusaya stated that they are prepared to assert their innocence. Contingency plans are in place if outcomes are unfavorable, but the current focus is on defending their position.

Mr. Panusaya confirmed that the Prachachon Party will persist despite potential challenges. He urged a review of regulations surrounding party dissolution to prevent similar occurrences. The party remains determined to represent those who support their vision and aspirations for change, even in the face of adversity.
