People’s Party MPs Request Probe Into 12 Million Baht Money Trail

Bangkok: Members of Parliament from the Prachachon Party have filed a complaint with the Revenue Department to investigate a 12 million baht money trail. Ms. Rakchanok Srinok, Bangkok MP, Ms. Panida Mongkolsawat, Samut Prakan MP, and Ms. Phakamon Nunan, party-list MP, traveled to submit a letter to the Director-General of the Revenue Department, urging an investigation into the source and financial path of 12 million baht linked to Mr. Thaweewat. Mr. Thaweewat, who claims ownership of the money, reportedly declared an annual income of 1 million baht for tax purposes.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Phakamon stated that Mr. Thaweewat was involved in the True-DTAC merger subcommittee during the 2022 meeting and had opposed the merger, arguing that the NBTC only had the authority to acknowledge it, not permit it. She suggested that past behavior and evidence could lead to legal action. The 12 million baht was associated with a letter from the NBTC mentioning Mr. Thaweewat.

Ms. Phakamon emphasized the importance of transparency, pointing out that Mr. Thaweewat is a government employee with a regular income from the NBTC and benefits from taxpayer-funded privileges, such as international travel. She urged the NBTC board and office to act decisively, comparing the situation to past corruption cases, to make the public aware of the origins of the 12 million baht. The investigation is seen as crucial in determining the legality of the funds and addressing societal concerns.
