House of Representatives’ (DPR RI’s) Commission VI member Rafli urged operators of Pertamina petrol stations to follow the standard operating procedure (SOP) on public facilities provided for customers at petrol stations.
“If Pertamina petrol station franchisees failed to abide by the dictated procedures, then they have committed an error that must be rectified promptly,” Rafli stated in Jakarta on Wednesday.
In accordance with State-owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir’s instruction, public facilities provided for customers at Pertamina petrol stations, such as praying room and toilet, must be clean, comfortable, and free of charge, he remarked.
Speaking in connection with the minister’s recent inspection that revealed a petrol station that collects a fee for toilet users, he noted that the onus lies with each petrol station operator rather than Pertamina, as the state-owned oil company that has implemented strict SOP on services and facilities provided for customers.
“In the recent case when the minister found out about a petrol station that collected a fee for toilet usage, it is the responsibility of the operator rather than Pertamina, as they have failed to observe the SOP,” Rafli emphasized.
The minister’s instruction should be diligently followed by all petrol station operators to improve their service and rectify similar glitches in their premises, he remarked.
“Toilets and praying room at every petrol station must be clean and comfortable for the users. Minister Thohir’s instruction is a warning for operators to improve their service,” Rafli stated.
Apart from expecting petrol station operators to improve their service, the parliament member also suggested Pertamina to intensify the monitoring of service at petrol stations.
Earlier, state-owned oil company Pertamina had positively responded to Thohir’s instruction on public facilities and services at petrol stations, including the suggestion to ensure free of charge services.
Pertamina’s Corporate Secretary for Subholding Commercial and Trading Irto Ginting confirmed that the company will remind operators of either petrol stations under direct management by the company or franchised to private entities to improve public facility service and ensure free-of-charge toilet services.
“We expressed our gratitude to the minister and public member’s input on improving services at Pertamina’s petrol stations. We also reminded the petrol station operators to make best use of their ability to cater to customers by ensuring clean and comfortable public facilities, particularly toilets that must also be free of charge,” Ginting stated.
