Bangkok: Insisting that the government and military are one entity, the Pheu Thai Party has expressed approval over the public’s increased trust in the military compared to the government, particularly in matters concerning the Thai-Cambodian border situation. Mr. Danupon Punnakanta, a party-list MP and spokesperson for the Pheu Thai Party, emphasized that this trust is a positive development and reiterated that the government and military operate as a unified force, independent of party popularity.
According to Thai News Agency, the Pheu Thai Party’s stance follows a NIDA survey indicating higher public trust in the military. Mr. Punnakanta clarified that the military serves as the leading force in the border area, with several committees established that include both government and military members to tackle local issues. He encouraged the public to maintain confidence in their collaborative efforts.
Furthermore, Mr. Punnakanta addressed concerns regarding the reflection of government popularity, asserting that public trust in the military does not correlate with the government’s popularity. He emphasized that in times of potential conflict, the military is the primary defender of the country’s sovereignty, and public confidence in it is beneficial.
