Pheu Thai Party Sets Ambitious 3-Month Target to Reduce Crime and Drugs

Bangkok: Pheu Thai is confident that cracking down on crime and drugs will yield clear results in 3 months. The “State-Ministry of Interior” mechanism will respond to solving people’s problems more quickly after the cabinet reshuffle.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Danupon Punnakan, MP for the party list and spokesman for the Pheu Thai Party, spoke about the government’s policy to suppress online crimes and transnational crimes, stating that the government’s operations are currently showing positive trends. This includes the issuance of arrest warrants for the network of Mr. Kok An, involved in the call center gang network. Officers conducted raids in various locations and were able to seize cash, assets, and important documents. Coordination with international organizations, such as Interpol, has been strengthened to improve the tracking and arrest of offenders.

Mr. Danupon highlighted that these actions align with the government policy statement to the parliament of the Paethongtarn Shinawatra government. This policy has been continuously implemented and has seen success in suppressing online crime networks in the border areas of Myanmar. The government has accelerated its operations upon confirming that Cambodia is a source of cyber crime gangs affecting Thai citizens.

The Pheu Thai Party spokesperson reiterated that the party prioritizes public safety in all aspects, not just the suppression of transnational and online crimes. The Ministry of Interior is currently improving its operations to address public issues more swiftly in line with government policies. Mr. Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, on his first day, ordered a crackdown on various crimes, including gambling dens in the capital, influential groups, and drug-related issues. He expressed confidence that within 3 months, there will be a significant reduction in crime, particularly in drug-related problems, which are a major concern for Pheu Thai Party MPs.

The government plans to proceed with arrests, prosecutions, asset seizures, network disruptions, and money laundering cuts simultaneously. There is confidence that this approach will be more effective than past efforts when the Ministry of Interior was managed by other political parties, which are now part of the opposition.
