Bangkok: Pheu Thai Party is preparing to select the First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, focusing on suitability as the primary criterion. Surawong, a representative of the party, announced that their strategy team is actively working on the selection process to nominate a candidate for the position before the House of Representatives votes on the matter.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sorawong Thienthong, who serves as the Minister of Tourism and Sports and the Secretary-General of the Pheu Thai Party, discussed the vacancy created by the Constitutional Court’s ruling. The court had previously ruled that Mr. Pichet Chuamuangphan, the ex-First Deputy Speaker, resigned from his position as Chiang Rai MP and was prohibited from running for election for 10 years due to violations of Article 144, paragraph 2 of the Constitution. Mr. Sorawong emphasized the importance of finding a candidate who can perform effectively in the role, with no regional quotas influencing the decision.
Mr. Sorawong also mentioned that House Speaker Wan Muhammad Noor Matha plans to include this agenda item on August 7th, which necessitates a swift selection process. The Pheu Thai Party’s strategy team is scheduled to meet on August 3rd to choose a suitable candidate. This nomination will then be presented to the Pheu Thai Party MPs for a final decision on August 5th. The position of First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives is designated for a member from the Pheu Thai Party.
