Phumtham Addresses Blue Line Project Transfer Queries Amid Cabinet Meeting

Bangkok: “Phumtham” expressed concerns after being questioned about the transfer of officials associated with the Blue Line project. He insisted that all actions taken were appropriate and subject to audit. Additionally, he mentioned uncertainty about the submission of proposals for purchasing Gripen aircraft and submarines to the Cabinet this week.

According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, acting as Prime Minister, addressed the media before the Cabinet meeting. He informed them that he would only provide a brief interview as he needed to review the agenda for appointments and transfers, which he had not yet fully examined.

Reporters inquired about the rumored transfers of the Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) and the Director-General of the Department of Lands. Mr. Phumtham responded that he would look into the matter since he had just reviewed the agenda, noting that it was a temporary agenda item.

When asked if the transfer of civil servants was a purge of blue-collar officials, Mr. Phumtham dismissed the notion, emphasizing that public administration must be based on appropriateness and legitimacy, with actions that can be rationally explained.

Regarding the Cabinet’s agenda to enhance Air Force capabilities, including the purchase of Gripen aircraft, Mr. Phumtham acknowledged this but was uncertain about the timing. He confirmed that the proposal had been signed and submitted to the Cabinet.

When questioned about the Navy’s involvement, specifically concerning submarines, Mr. Phumtham indicated that issues pending before his departure, including Gripen aircraft and submarines, would be addressed. He clarified that all matters had been cleared up after leaving the Ministry of Defence and that it was now up to the Cabinet to review and finalize various contracts.
