Bangkok: Thawee Sodsong, the Minister of Justice, has announced a compensation initiative for individuals affected by the clashes along the Thai-Cambodian border, committing to provide financial assistance from the state fund to those injured or impacted by the conflict, including soldiers and police officers who report their injuries.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Col. Thawee Sodsong elaborated on the compensation scheme, which is aimed at aiding citizens, military personnel, and police officers affected by the recent unrest and clashes at the border. The minister highlighted that there will be legal provisions to ensure victims and defendants in criminal cases can receive compensation upon filing a report. This compensation process commences immediately upon the report being filed. Specifically, in situations involving crimes against life and body, financial compensation is available, with 200,000 baht allocated in the event of a death, and approximately 100,000 baht for injuries. Reports indicate that over 10 individuals have died, and upwards of 40 civilians and soldiers have sustained injuries.
The compensation is provided in alignment with the Ministry of Justice’s regulations and is supplementary to the basic government funds designated for public welfare. The provision extends to injured soldiers, police, and other officers, ensuring they are eligible for the same assistance. Provincial justice officials have been deployed to the affected areas and are working in coordination with the Ministry of Justice to expedite the compensation process, which is expected to be completed within one to two days.
