Phumtham Asserts Compliance with Court’s Order on Khao Kradong Land Revocation

Bangkok: Phumtham Wechayachai, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, has reaffirmed his commitment to adhere to the Supreme Court’s order regarding the revocation of the Khao Kradong land title deed, which reassigns the land to the State Railway of Thailand.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phumtham addressed the ongoing protests by Khao Kradong residents who oppose the land revocation. He emphasized that the decision adheres strictly to legal principles. He assured those who feel that their rights have been infringed upon that they have the option to seek redress through the justice system. “We are governed by a system of law,” he stated, underscoring that the revocation aligns with the Supreme Court’s confirmation that the land has always been state property.

Mr. Phumtham noted that the cancellation process is ongoing and is being conducted in line with established regulations and principles. He mentioned the recent change in the Director-General of the Land Department and highlighted the need to wait for the new official to assume responsibilities. While he is not interfering with the process, he stressed that compliance with the court’s authority is mandatory, warning that failure to do so could result in charges of dereliction of duty under Section 157.

When questioned about potential legal action against the former Director-General of the Land Department, Mr. Phumtham remained non-committal, stating, “We’ll talk about it later.”
