Bangkok: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, acting as Prime Minister, Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, marked his last day at the Ministry of Interior, signaling the conclusion of his tenure until the new Cabinet is officially sworn in.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phumtham conveyed that his responsibilities at the Ministry will cease upon the Royal Assent of the new Cabinet and its complete oath of office. Post this transition, his authority to sign documents will end, and the new Cabinet will assume its duties following the presentation of its policy statement to Parliament. Mr. Phumtham clarified that he was not present to address any other matters, although he assured that any remaining issues of public concern would be handled. He mentioned that there are minimal outstanding issues, none of significant importance.
On the previous day, a document was presented to Mr. Phumtham for his signature, indicating that the current week would likely be his last in office. He noted that any subsequent documents needing his signature could be brought to him at the Pheu Thai Party.
Reporters observed Mr. Phumtham smiling and waving to the media as he made his way to his office on the second floor, a gesture perceived as a farewell.
