Kathmandu: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is coordinating with the Royal Thai Embassy in Kathmandu to implement measures to assist Thai nationals in Nepal. This follows the Nepalese government’s imposition of a curfew in several regions due to protests by the new generation against corruption and a social media ban.
According to Thai News Agency, the curfew was enforced starting September 8, 2025, as a response to the escalating protests. The Royal Thai Embassy has issued a warning to Thai citizens, advising them to remain in secure locations. In Kathmandu, the curfew is effective from 8:30 am and covers areas within the Ring Road, including major spots like Balkumari and Koteshwar. Similarly, Lalitpur city has a curfew from 9 am to midnight in specified sectors, while Bhaktapur’s curfew is in effect from 8:30 am until further notice.
With heightened security, the Nepalese military has increased patrols and issued a Prohibitory Order until 5:00 PM on September 10, 2025, alongside a curfew until 6:00 AM on September 11, 2025. This prohibits all movement and gatherings within the restricted areas. Thai citizens are urged to stay indoors, follow updates from Nepalese authorities and the Royal Thai Embassy, and take necessary safety measures.
Nepali authorities have assured the public that the situation is under control and gradually normalizing. The Royal Thai Embassy continues to work with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide support to Thai citizens and encourages them to stay informed and avoid crowded areas.
Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) reopened yesterday evening, following an announcement from the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN). Thai travelers are advised to verify their flight schedules with airlines and ensure their travel documents are in order before heading to the airport.
