Bangkok: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, acting in his capacity as Prime Minister, chaired the second meeting of the National Energy Policy Committee for 2025 at the Phakdi Bodin Building, Government House. The meeting focused on the critical task of drafting a new national electricity development plan.
According to Thai News Agency, the meeting saw the presence of key government figures including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Mr. Pirapan Salee-rat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Mr. Maris Sangiampong, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ekanat Promphan, and Minister of Industry along with other relevant agencies. Mr. Phumtham emphasized the importance of addressing agenda items related to the procurement of additional renewable energy, particularly for sectors with low fuel costs and the industrial sector, aligning with the 2023-2030 clean energy production plan.
Mr. Phumtham highlighted the need for a coherent approach to expanding current power generation capabilities and optimizing the operation of existing power plants to ensure energy security. He stressed the necessity of managing these resources effectively during the transition to the new Power Development Plan (PDP). Furthermore, he directed the Ministry of Energy to expedite the completion of the new Power Development Plan for Thailand, underscoring the urgency of the matter.
