Phumtham Dismisses Resignation Rumors Surrounding Paethongtarn Shinawatra

Bangkok: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Mr. Phumtham Wechayachai, addressed the ongoing speculation regarding Prime Minister and Minister of Culture, Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra’s potential resignation post-2026 budget discussions, firmly denying such claims.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phumtham emphasized that Ms. Paethongtarn never expressed any intention to resign following the second and third readings of the 2026 budget. He questioned the origins of these rumors, stating that they were baseless as no discussions or statements regarding her resignation had been made. He urged the public not to amplify minor rumors into significant issues, affirming that Ms. Paethongtarn has demonstrated her commitment to her role.

Regarding the necessity for a contingency plan, Mr. Bhumtham clarified that there is none, as the Prime Minister is navigating the legal processes smoothly. He reassured that the Pheu Thai Party remains steady and has not implemented any alternative strategies, as the legal proceedings are advancing without complications. Mr. Phumtham reiterated that there have been no internal conversations about a resignation, confirming the party’s focus on the current processes without the need for a backup plan.
