Phumtham Honors Village Leaders for Driving Happiness in Line with Government Policy

Bangkok: Phumtham Wechayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, presented awards to outstanding village headmen and subdistrict heads, recognizing them as “front-line leaders” who drive happiness for the people in alignment with government policy.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Phumtham presided over the Outstanding Kamnan and Village Headmen Awards ceremony on Kamnan and Village Headmen Day 2025. The event was attended by key figures such as Ms. Thirat Samretwanit, Deputy Minister of Interior; Mr. Arsit Sampantharat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior; Mr. Nirat Phongsitthaworn, Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration; Pol. Lt. Col. Phopchanok Chalanukroh, Director-General of the Department of Local Administration; and over 500 award-winning kamnan and village headmen.

Mr. Phumtham emphasized the significance of village headmen and kamnans, highlighting their role in executing government and Ministry of Interior missions and resolving public hardships. He described them as a “bridge” connecting government operations with local communities.

In his address, Mr. Phumtham noted that the Ministry of Interior has entrusted these local leaders to act as “front-line commanders” to advance the “5 Suffering-Free, 3 Happiness-Creating” policy. This includes tackling the drug problem, promoting public health, enhancing education for village children, and boosting the local grassroots economy. He stressed the importance of local leaders working to create a safe environment, raising awareness, and cooperating with relevant agencies.

Mr. Phumtham congratulated the award winners, urging them to perform their duties with honesty and integrity, and to focus on the well-being of their communities. He encouraged them to build trust and confidence in the Kamnan and Village Headman institutions and to devote their efforts to alleviating suffering and promoting happiness.

Mr. Nirat Phongsitthaworn highlighted the Department of Provincial Administration’s ongoing recognition of kamnan and village headmen for their commitment to “relieving suffering and fostering happiness.” In 2025, a total of 264 individuals were honored, including 131 outstanding kamnan and 133 outstanding village headmen.
