Phumtham Visits Refugee Shelter in Trat Province to Offer Support and Assurance

Trat: Phumtham Vejjayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Acting Prime Minister, visited a refugee shelter in Trat Province. He interacted with evacuees, sharing meals on the floor to build rapport and reduce anxiety. During his visit, Phumtham instructed local leaders and volunteers to look after the evacuees’ homes, while conveying the encouragement sent by Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra.

According to Thai News Agency, Phumtham was accompanied by key officials including Mr. Chanin Rungthanakiat, Secretary to the Minister of Interior, Mr. Orsit Sampantharat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, and Mr. Natthaphong Songwanchit, Governor of Trat Province. The shelter was noted for its preparedness in terms of food and supplies, with evacuees expressing gratitude for the management by local agencies. However, concerns about the safety of their homes and pets persisted among the evacuees.

Phumtham and his team distributed goods and engaged with the evacuees to foster a sense of calm and support. He emphasized the government’s commitment to providing the best possible care during this challenging time. He reassured the evacuees that measures were in place to protect their homes, with village officials and volunteers actively monitoring the situation.

Furthermore, Phumtham addressed Cambodian workers at the shelter, ensuring them of Thai hospitality and governmental support. He committed to reassessing the situation once it stabilizes, highlighting the inclusive approach being adopted by the authorities.
