PM Declines to Comment on Potential Legal Actions Against Thaksin and Pheu Thai.

Bangkok: Prime Minister Paethongtarn Shinawatra has declined to comment on whether the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) will pursue legal action against former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and the Pheu Thai Party. She emphasized that it is a matter of legal process and deflected questions regarding dual citizenship and the return of Yingluck Shinawatra, stating she has not coordinated any efforts for their return. The Prime Minister also clarified that appointing Kittirat Na Ranong as chairman of the Bank of Thailand is a decision for the relevant committee.

According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister addressed concerns about the Attorney General’s decision not to accept a case related to a petition filed by Mr. Thirayuth Suwannakasorn. The petition requested the Constitutional Court to rule on whether Thaksin and the Pheu Thai Party acted to overthrow the democratic regime under Section 49. She insisted that this matter must be handled through the complete legal process and that the go
vernment would not intervene.

When questioned about the implications for the government, the Prime Minister suggested addressing issues individually to avoid complications. She expressed a desire for a smooth resolution if no wrongdoing was found, to prevent one issue from affecting another.

Addressing Thaksin’s dual citizenship and potential election law violations during his campaigning, the Prime Minister deferred to the media, suggesting they pose their questions directly to Thaksin. She reiterated that Thaksin had returned and could be interviewed.

Regarding former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s potential return to Thailand and Thaksin’s statement to foreign media about returning during Songkran in 2025, the Prime Minister smiled and reiterated her previous statements. She confirmed there had been no coordination from Yingluck with the government regarding her return.

On the topic of Mr. Kittiratt Na Ranong’s appointment as chairman of the Bank of Thailand, amid criticism of his previous adviso
ry role to the Prime Minister and potential legal issues, the Prime Minister stated that the selection committee deemed him qualified. She emphasized that the process should adhere to the committee’s consideration.
