Bangkok: “Big Tai,” the national police chief, has confirmed that intelligence reports have not identified any third-party interference in the upcoming rally. However, a strategic plan has been formulated, and law enforcement personnel are on high alert to monitor the situation. The duration of the rally and any potential escalation will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Gen. Kittirat Panphet, the national police chief, has emphasized the importance of continuous monitoring and assessment of the political gatherings. He highlighted the critical role of information gathering, negotiations, and ensuring the safety of both protesters and the general public. Law enforcement officers are particularly vigilant about the potential presence of ill-intentioned individuals or third parties intending to incite disturbances. Consequently, the provincial police are tasked with gathering intelligence to adequately prepare personnel and equipment against unforeseen incidents.
Currently, there is no indication of a mass mobilization for the rally, with only standard social media invitations circulating. The police recognize the constitutional right to assembly, provided it is conducted in accordance with legal guidelines. Effective cooperation between the public and police is deemed essential for maintaining peace and order, with security measures in place for both demonstrators and residents.
The anticipated number of rally participants remains uncertain, with an analysis expected by Thursday to facilitate the police’s strategic planning. The assembly has received formal authorization, with permissions granted for activities from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Victory Monument. An understanding has been reached with organizers regarding the designated area, and there are currently no reports of plans for an overnight stay.
Authorities are considering the possibility of the rally evolving into a prolonged demonstration and have prepared contingency plans accordingly. The emphasis remains on the constitutional right to peaceful assembly and the avoidance of chaos. The rally is viewed as a collective expression of views, rather than requiring oversight by specific individuals, with the police ensuring order is maintained.
Several senior political leaders involved in organizing the event view past incidents as instructive, urging caution to prevent national disruption. While international conflict situations are not expected to directly influence the rally’s potential for violence, support for the military’s role in safeguarding national sovereignty has been reiterated. Cooperation from the media is also sought to foster public understanding and awareness.
